Welcome to MAXT

Regardless of its origins, the practice of any martial art is still basically an athletic endeavor, in that it requires body movement. As such, martial arts follow similar principles in developing such qualities as skill, speed, co-ordination, etc. The development of these attributes is more important than individual techniques and traditions.

A martial artist is therefore an athlete, and just as there are different levels of athletes such as amateurs, semi-professionals and professionals, there are different types of martial artists. There are those who dedicate themselves to the practice of martial arts, there are those who practice for recreation or as a hobby, and there are those who merely wish to keep fit and/or learn some self defense should they ever need it. They are all valid motives for studying a martial art.

The methods taught at this school are a modern progressive approach to the fighting arts covering all possible ranges of combat. These include kicking range, punching range, trapping range and grappling range. Comprehensive training is given in all the ranges, both unarmed and with a variety of weapons, so should it be necessary, the student should be able to fit in with any combative situation.

The methods taught at this school are drawn from several sources. The primary source of martial art learning derives from the Inosanto Academy in Los Angeles, California. There is a strong base system which forms the core of the schools teachings. This base system consists of the martial art developed by the late Bruce Lee and handed down to his close friend and student Dan Inosanto known as Jun Fan Gung Fu. This is taught alongside the Filipino martial art of Kali, with its many sub-divisions covering both unarmed and armed combat. Muay Thai Boxing drills are also taught to develop power in the striking tools and for overall conditioning.  Ground fighting drills from Shoot Wrestling & Brazilian Jiu Jitsu give the student the skill and confidence needed to defend themselves on the ground should they ever need to do so.

Whatever one's reasons for studying a fighting art, the aim of this school is to aid the martial artists personal development towards their individual aspirations.
